THE EQUIPMENT SHOWROOM

Pavilion 2.1, Stand C61

The Equipment Showroom is presenting the year’s major new products with regard to deck fittings, electronics, clothing and equipment for comfort or safety. The big trend this year, textile fibres in the deck fittings have made a powerful foray into the pleasure boating market, after having won over the professional racers.

Shackles, pulleys, various fasteners are abandoning stainless steel and titanium for more exotic high-tech materials like Spectra or Vectran, ever more reliable and lighter. A return to the times of the clippers, but with 21st-century technology!

Another strong trend: multifunction displays. Even competition die-hards like Brooks & Gatehouse or the French NKE are getting into it.

The proliferation of information available, from AIS monitoring systems to Broadband radar, from cartography to graphic sounder, gives these displays an inevitable central role. The networking of all this data moreover has catapulted the iPad onto the knees of many professional skippers, and the accessories for turning Apple’s best seller into a seafarer’s best friend are multiplying.

The Equipment Showroom also presents a great variety of consumer products, like the waterproof HD microcameras and folding bicycles, or products much more professional like the latest underwater carbon-based paints, rigging systems or the most sophisticated systems for managing electrical energy. It is the wide diversity of equipment on offer at Nautic that makes the Equipment Showroom a must, in gathering the main innovations and new products together in a single place.

Steve Jobs left his mark on our era, on the oceans as well as on land...

The iPad has become a must-have tool, not only for amateurs, but also for professional racers! The supply of marine software and accessories for tablets is therefore expanding. Examples include Digital Yacht, distributed by MC Technologies in France: their BoatraNet system is an onboard WiFi hub concentrating all the information onto your iPad or iPod.

Outside during the night watch or in the cabin, you follow wirelessly and in real time the route of the boat, AIS tracking, temperatures or engine speed, the force and direction of the wind, in short all the data from all your devices…

Specialists of high-end goods and competition, like the English Brooks & Gatehouse or the French NKE, are going to be unveiling their latest productions at Nautic where, here again, multifunction displays and networks are at the centre of their developments. B&G is launching a new generation of cockpit display--Zeus 2, integrating all the information: navigational, central, radar and mapping.

As for NKE, the brand equips a number of professional racers, from the Mini 6.50 to the maxi multihulls. It remains a real jewel of French high technology against major international groups.
