EXHIBITION OF ERIC TABARLY’s PEN DUICK III : the best on the 5 oceans.

This year the Éric Tabarly Association is exposing the PEN DUICK III in the Hall 1.

In 1967, Éric Tabarly, thanks to his experience with the Pen Duick II, wants to build a powerful sailboat adapted to the regulations of the races that he wants to win. Thus Pen Duick III will measure 17.45m, will entirely be composed of aluminum and will have a rigging schooner of which the supplement of sail surface, not disadvantageous, will get hold of an unequalled power for downwind sailing.

Éric will build a crew of nine men who will become famous in the yachting history: Petipas, Kersauson, Vaneck, Lavat, Guégant or English will take part in the adventure beside this sailor who is tracing the path of French sailing.

Pen Duick III requiring a perfect cohesion of the crew because of its original rigging, Éric decides to prepare the Admiral’s Cup of which he is competing the selection for the French team in Saint-Malo before taking part and win the Morgan Cup and the Gotland Race in Sweden. After winning the Channel Race, the legend goes on in Fastnet when Éric and his team members overtake opponents which are 27 meters long at real time as well as compensated time. Then he gets two new victories in Plymouth-La Rochelle and La Rochelle-Bénodet.

Results of the season: 6 races and as many victories. Éric Tabarly proves with Pen Duick III the relevance of his technical choices as well as his leader's qualities.
